Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless beef belly
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 scallions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • Chopped scallions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef belly by combining it with hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, ginger, and star anise in a mixing bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the marinated beef belly in a roasting pan and roast for about 1.5 – 2 hours until it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
  3. Increase the oven temperature to broil and brush the beef with remaining marinade. Broil for 2-3 minutes until caramelized.
  4. Prepare the creamy sauce by whisking together mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Slice the beef belly into thick pieces, drizzle with creamy sauce, and garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds.
