  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate chips (for topping)
  • Additional chopped nuts (for garnish)
  • Flaked sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter, sugar, water, and salt over medium heat until dissolved.
  3. Cook while stirring continuously until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage), about 15–20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and half of the chopped nuts.
  5. Pour the hot mixture onto the prepared baking sheet; spread into an even layer.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top while warm; allow to melt slightly before spreading evenly.
  7. Garnish with remaining nuts and optional flaked sea salt.
  8. Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
